What really makes a T-shirt sustainable

Sustainability isn't decided at a single point, but along a shirt's whole journey:

• Material: Certified organic cotton is grown without chemical pesticides and with considerably less water than conventional cotton.
• Production: Fair wages and audited working conditions instead of anonymous low-cost manufacturing.
• Transport routes: The shorter the journey, the smaller the footprint.
• Durability: A good shirt you wear for years beats every “bargain” that goes out of shape after five washes.

Organic cotton & OEKO-TEX: two terms you should know

Look out for certified organic cotton and for the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 label. It confirms that the fabric has been tested for harmful substances – important, because your shirt sits on your skin all day.
